ART CONDOMINIUMS | WINNER OF A 2013 TORONTO URBAN DESIGN AWARD

On September 11, 2013, Toronto’s city builders gathered at the elegant Palais Royale Banquet Hall in celebration of recent urban developments which have made a significant contribution to the public realm. As threatening thunderstorms magically cleared,  awards in 7 categories were distributed to winning design teams following an inspiring introduction by chief planner Jennifer Keesmaat (http://ownyourcity.ca/2013/09/transcript-of-my-speech-at-the-2013-toronto-urban-design-awards/).

Art Condominiums received an Award of Merit under the category “Private Buildings in Context – Mid-Rise”.

Jury’s Comment:

“Art Condominiums offers a thorough and robust response to current civic criteria that encourage street friendly development. A mixed-use program of artists’ studios and galleries at grade, topped with residential development, the building addresses two streets with creative and articulate frontage, such as elegant balconies at the second level that interact with the street and support the pedestrian experience. The jury hopes to see the adjacent sidewalk enriched with the same level of design and detail as expressed on the building.”
